Our firm is co-founded by 32 leading CEOs, including the founders of Abridge, DraftKings, Wayfair, Iora Health, Exact Sciences, Ginkgo Bioworks, and Flywire. We are currently investing out of Pillar IV, a $175M fund.

We work with founders months to years in advance of commercialization, collaborating with PhD students, postdocs and faculty. Our team helps by validating customer demand, recruiting key team members, developing business plans, navigating licensing agreements, and building syndicates with strong co-investors.

Position Overview
We’re seeking a Chief of Staff to join our Boston-based team. In this role, you will work directly with our Founding Partner, Jamie Goldstein, and Partner, Parker McKee, across the spectrum of investing and portfolio support – from sourcing to diligence to creating access to customers, talent, and advisors.
This is not an internal investor-track role. It is an incredible opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to the VC industry, learning from a team with decades of experience. Every day will be different. We invest broadly across deep tech and bio; our investments range from fusion to AI-native SaaS to robotics and beyond.
VC is fast-paced and dynamic – there is always a founder to meet, an investment to diligence, new scientific research to explore. We often work ambitious schedules, and seek a Chief of Staff who is committed to delivering the same level of excellence to founders.
Key Responsibilities
Investment Operations & Deal Flow
- Support Jamie and Parker in reviewing new investment opportunities in breakthrough science
- Participate in the due diligence processes for pre-seed and seed investments through market research and conversations with prospective customers
Portfolio Support & Founder Success
- Support portfolio founders with access to customers and talent, growing our network to help technical founders transition from lab to industry
- Coordinate founder programming, events, and community building initiatives
Partner Support & Communications
- Lead special projects end-to-end, from sourcing initiatives to financial analysis to research
- Support partner branding/marketing initiatives through writing and events
- Manage partner schedules, setting up meetings with founders and executives
- Handle follow-up and planning across a range of initiatives
Skills and Experience We're Seeking
Essential Qualifications
- Strong track record of execution and results
- Fast learner who is laser-focused on execution with the drive to get things done
- Deeply organized and reliable – requires little to no supervision
- Excellent writer who takes pride in thoughtful, eloquent communication
- Relationship-oriented with strong presence to interact with seasoned CEOs
Ideal Background
- Interest in breakthrough science and deep technology sectors
- Experience working in a tech company and/or an aspiring founder who wants a window into the VC ecosystem
- Excitement about the venture capital field and eagerness to learn the business quickly (deep VC knowledge not required)
- Low ego – happy to work in support of other people (investors and founders) and do what’s needed to succeed
- Watches and learns, anticipating and solving for investor and founder needs on-the-fly
- Curious and intuitive—a creative and unconventional thinker, yet also highly analytical and logical
- Knows the right questions to ask, as well as when to listen and learn
- Extremely detail-oriented with a desire to create an A+ experience for those you work with
- Thrives in ambiguity and creates systems and processes that allow for scale
- Passion for supporting technical founders and breakthrough innovations
Technical background is a plus
